Santa Cruz railroad track

On Saturday, a friend and I visited the boardwalk in Santa Cruz. We parked in the neighborhood and after a few rides and food, we made our way back to the car. There was an old railroad bridge adjacent to the walkway that would take us back.  The bridge rests nearly three stories above a semi-shallow waterway touching the ocean.
Rather than follow the guidance of the posted signs, we instead decided to walk back on the rails. It wasn't bad, until we reached the middle of the bridge with several missing planks.  One mis-step and you could quite literally fall through, doing some serious body damage on the way down.
Few things scare me, but there were moments when I literally held my breath and felt frozen in place. You'll note from the picture below a broken track.  There were half a dozen other places where the track was completely missing...hence the prospect of a terrible fall.
Nice view of the boardwalk from the scary bridge.
Yes, we were idiots by not following the signs.  I will likely go prematurely grey as a result...
